Brass Black Oxidized　●LABEL：B. Rickson & Sons, Inc. New L-2A jackets were supplied first to elite units serving in frontline combat. The elite-of-elite units, the USAF’s 4th FIG/335the FIS, was the first Sabre unit sent to the Korean Peninsula to combat the advent of their Communist enemy’s premier fighter jet, the MiG-15. The 335th FIS was an unquestioned elite unit, as documented by their combat record - they shat down the first MiG in their first air battle on December 14, 1950, then went on to become the top-scoring fighter unit in the Korean War. The insignia of the 335th FIS was revised in the late summer of 1952 from the earlier, more-simple Indianhead patch that dated back to 1942, to what was probably the largest, most-elaborate squadron patch of any USAF unit in the Korean War. The 335th FIS patch as depicted on this L-2A was custom made in Japan while the unit was stationed there and original examples are extremely rare and desirable today.
